In response to the unjust murder of George Floyd, many have rallied to protest for the end to systematic racism. This is not the first time that members of the Black community were killed nor is it the first time that people protest to end this violence. These events are a part of a large genealogy of struggle.
We at Close the Gap Foundation support the efforts of the Black Lives Matter movement. We recognize the importance of cultivating a space where the Black community can fully participate sans the material consequences of racism.
Our Foundation is acutely aware of the importance of staying in solidarity with the community organizers and speaking out against these injustices. As we proceed forward with our virtual Spark Summer 2020 program, we will make a continuous commitment to social justice within our programming and hold spaces to support marginalized people in pursuit of a more equitable future.
